HANAC Corona Senior Residence
This award-winning, 57,675 sf, 8-story 68-unit affordable housing apartment building for low-income seniors meets the NYSERDA Multifamily Performance Standards for Energy Star Certification as well as the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria. It is one of the first affordable senior housing development in the United States to meet the Passive House Institute design standards.

The ground floor of the building is designated to an early childhood education facility to be administered by the New York City School Construction Authority (~5,000 sf).
The back of the building includes a rear yard with a vegetable garden, seating and tables for residents, and a children's natural play area. An additional open space, exclusive for the seniors, is located on the fifth floor terrace.

Financing for this project consists of, Tax Credits, HPD subsidy, RESO A capital funding through Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and Council Member Julissa Ferrera's office, and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman settlement money.

This residence offers a tenant services component through the Senior Affordable Rental Apartments (SARA) Program that provides social services and community integration to the residents of the building.
