HANAC CORONA SENIOR RESIDENCE RECEIVES CERTIFICATION FROM THE PASSIVE HOUSE INSTITUTE

We are proud to announce that our HANAC Corona Senior Residence  has been certified by the European Passive House Institute this past October. HANAC Corona is now the first affordable housing project  built to Passive House standards in the United States to combine  low income senior housing and a universal pre-k to achieve this  prestige certification. 

The design of the building includes robust thermal insulation, energy  recovery ventilation (ERV) units in each apartment to ensure fresh air  supply, and a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) units in all common  areas. The ERV and HRV units throughout the building ensure  the interior is both well ventilated and stays a constant, and  comfortable, temperature while providing significant energy  savings. Heating and cooling is provided by highly efficient variable  refrigerant flow (VRF) units located on the roof. In addition to  the Passive House certification, the building also recently received  an “A” rating from Energy Star. 

The eight-story building located in Corona, New York, provides  67 affordable apartment units to low-income seniors, including 21  units set aside for formerly homeless seniors, and 54 slots for  children in the pre-k located on the ground floor and administered by  the New York City School Construction Authority.
