The HANAC Corona Beacon, which is funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) services 1,200 participants a year from ages 6 and up. Programming is designed to assist participants acquire the skills and attitudes they need to graduate from high school, succeed in their chosen career, and give back to the community.
Programming includes activities to assist participants with:
- Homework help
- Reading clubs
- Financial literacy
- Life Skills
- Career Awareness/School to Work Transition
- Recreation/Health & Fitness
- Game room
- Arts and crafts
- Music / dance
- Fashion and design
- Field trips
Our goal is to bridge the gap that exists between the community, parents, and schools. By having these three entities merge as one collectively to resolve the many problems facing the community. By providing a family type atmosphere and treating each participant as an individual. Corona Beacon and their staff empower the participants with what is needed to become successful, productive members of the community.
You can make a difference! Program participants are welcome to join the Youth Council which meets monthly. This forum allows for discussions and recommendations related to programming and activities, topics of interest to the program and its participants.
