English as a Second Language (ESL)

The program serves the large multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee population that reside in Western Queens. The program operates from September through June with classes meeting Monday through Thursday from 6pm-9pm. Students attend 2 evenings per week.

The classes offer oral and written English instruction for ESL literacy and can accommodate any level of proficiency from those with virtually no literacy skills to those with advanced levels of English language proficiency.  The program focuses on oral language acquisition, integrating various methods of instruction appropriate for each level such as Basic Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Instruction is enhanced through the use of computer technology in the classroom.
